Yahoo! today announced the most popular searches, themes, and trends in Singapore as part of its 2008 Year in Review as told through the billions of searches conducted by millions of Yahoo! users in Singapore every month. Find out what makes Singapore tick for this topsy-turvy year.

This year, Mas Selamat Kastari’s escape got Singaporeans all hot and bothered, but not as much as celebrity scandals from Hong Kong (Edison Chen) to Hollywood (Miley Cyrus). A not-so-little spat between bloggers Dawn Yang and Xiaxue topped off a year of strong interest in hot celebrity women such as all three Beach Ball Babes, Megan Fox, and Liu Yi Fei.

It was also a year of firsts. While Singapore held the first Formula One night race and won its first ever Silver medal at the Beijing Olympics, Lo Hwei Yen tragically became the country’s first victim of terrorism.

Finally, proving that Singaporeans are a cash-conscious bunch, interest in the ups and downs – mostly downs – of SGX shares was high, as was bargain-hunting for $2 COEs, and – only in car-mad Singapore – visiting a website to monitor petrol pump prices.
